Sports Guards

Athletes playing any contact sport (i.e hockey, basketball, football, rugby, etc.) or racquet sport (i.e. squash, badminton, etc.) should be wearing a sports guard when they participate. A sports guard provides protection should the teeth be accidentally struck. Literature also indicates that they also help to prevent concussions.

At our office we fabricate a custom-fitted sports guard by taking an alginate impression of the athletes teeth. A sports guard fabricated by taking an alginate impression is far superior to a "boil-and-bite" sports guard purchased at a sports store. An ill-fitting sports guard can actually do damage versus protect one's teeth.
